Registered and Licensed Clubs Award 2025 Pay Rates (MA000058)
Plain-English Summary
Who does this award cover?
The Registered and Licensed Clubs Award covers employees working in registered and licensed clubs across Australia. This includes RSL clubs, leagues clubs, bowling clubs, golf clubs, surf lifesaving clubs, and other community-based clubs that are registered under state or territory legislation. If you work as a bar attendant, gaming attendant, receptionist, cook, chef, cleaner, groundskeeper, maintenance worker, or administrative officer at a registered club, this award likely applies to you.
The award does NOT cover employees of hotels, pubs, restaurants, or cafes (which are covered by the Hospitality Industry General Award MA000009), or employees of unregistered social clubs. It also does not cover employees who are covered by a more specific enterprise agreement.
How classification levels work
Classification levels run from Level 1 (introductory level -- basic food and beverage service, kitchen hand, general cleaning) through to higher levels covering qualified cooks, supervisors, and specialist roles. Maintenance and horticultural employees have a separate classification stream. Your employer must classify you based on the duties you actually perform.
What about part-time and casual workers?
Part-time employees receive the same hourly rate as full-time employees, with entitlements on a pro-rata basis. Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top of the base hourly rate. The minimum engagement for casuals is 2 hours per shift for food and beverage employees and 3 hours for all other employees.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the ordinary hours for club workers under this award?
Ordinary hours are a maximum of 38 per week, or an average of 38 per week over a roster cycle of up to 4 weeks. Clubs that trade in the evening can roster ordinary hours across any time of day, 7 days a week. However, weekend and evening work outside ordinary hours attracts penalty rates. The award allows for flexible rostering to accommodate clubs that operate across extended trading hours.
2. Do gaming attendants get paid more than bar staff?
Gaming attendants and bar attendants are generally classified at the same level (Level 2) and receive the same base rate. However, if a gaming attendant has additional responsibilities such as managing gaming compliance, cashier duties, or supervising other gaming staff, they may be entitled to a higher classification at Level 3 or above.
3. What penalty rates apply on Anzac Day and Christmas Day?
Public holidays attract a 250% penalty rate for full-time and part-time employees. For a Level 2 employee earning $25.28/hr base rate, working on Anzac Day or Christmas Day would earn $63.20/hr. Casual employees receive 250% of the base rate on public holidays. If you work overtime on a public holiday, the overtime rate is calculated on the public holiday rate.
4. Are cooking apprentices covered by this award?
Yes. The award covers both cooking apprentices and maintenance/horticultural apprentices. Apprentice pay rates are set as a percentage of the qualified tradesperson rate, increasing with each year of the apprenticeship. Adult apprentices (21 or over at commencement) receive higher apprentice rates than junior apprentices at the same stage of training.
5. What is the minimum shift length for casual club workers?
The minimum engagement for casual employees depends on the type of work. Food and beverage employees have a minimum engagement of 2 hours per shift. All other casual employees (including gaming attendants, cleaners, and maintenance staff) have a minimum engagement of 3 hours per shift. At the Level 2 casual rate ($31.60/hr), the minimum payment for a 3-hour shift is $94.80 gross.
