Mining Industry 2025 Pay Rates (MA000011)

Plain-English Summary

Who does this award cover?

The Mining Industry covers employees in the mining industry, including metalliferous mining, non-metallic mining, quarrying, and extractive industries (other than black coal). If you work in gold, iron ore, copper, nickel, lithium, or other mineral extraction, this award applies to you. It covers approximately 180,000 workers across Australia.

This award does NOT cover black coal mining workers (Black Coal Mining Industry Award, MA000001), oil and gas extraction workers (Hydrocarbons Industry (Upstream) Award, MA000062), or quarrying operations covered by the Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award (MA000055). See clause 4.1 for the full coverage terms.

How classification levels work

The award classifies employees into levels based on skills and qualifications, from entry-level mine workers through to experienced operators, trades workers, and supervisory roles. Continuous shiftworkers and non-continuous shiftworkers have different provisions.

Key features of this award

Mining operations frequently involve continuous shiftwork, fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) rosters, and remote location work. The award includes provisions for shiftwork penalties and overtime that reflect the demanding nature of mining rosters.
